Anthony Collins (AC) reveals the scale and impact of its social purpose-driven legal work with the publication of its annual Social Impact Report, kick-starting the firm’s 50th-anniversary celebrations.
The report, which assesses how the firm fulfils its purpose of improving lives, communities and society, highlights the impact of its work across its specialisms – from charities and education to housing, local government and individuals.
In 2022, 94% of AC’s work was measured to have a direct positive social impact.
During this time almost 50% of AC’s work was for organisations with charitable status. A further 28% supported individuals, 17% directly supported local government organisations and 5% focused on social businesses, including not-for-profits, co-operatives and community interest companies. Over the last year, AC has helped register 97 new charities.
Finally, the firm’s private legal services team helped to recover over £25 million in clinical negligence and personal injury compensation claims to help buy life-changing equipment.
Peter Hubbard, senior partner at Anthony Collins, commented:
“Our Social Impact Report gives us the opportunity to reflect on what we’ve been able to contribute over the past twelve months. Each year, hearing the stories of those we have helped and how their lives have changed, drives us to continue to do more the following year.
“This report marks a special year for us, as we celebrate our 50th anniversary and our newly accredited B Corp status, which makes us accountable – to ourselves, our clients and the wider community – on how we are making a positive contribution to society and the environment. We look forward to building on our work to date and continuing to make a real impact on more people’s lives.”
Alongside its latest Social Impact Report, AC was recently certified as a B Corp, making it just the fourth law firm in the UK to be recognised as meeting the highest standards of environmental and social accountability.
AC’s Social Impact Report has been launched with four films and a host of new case studies on the firm’s website. These films highlight the work and stories of some of the organisations the firm has worked with over the last year, including:
- UK Sepsis Trust – AC works with those who are supported by the charity to pursue claims of clinical negligence.
- St Basils – As well as offering legal counsel, lawyers and advisors have also provided their time to support fundraising activities for the Birmingham-based homelessness charity.
- Great Places Housing Group – AC advised Great Places Housing Group on joint ventures and public procurement, in order to help them secure a lead contract from Manchester Combined Authority to place homeless people into permanent accommodation.
