Our Court of Protection team manage the finances of around one hundred people who do not have the capacity to look after their own affairs, and who have not appointed an attorney to act on their behalf in these circumstances. Some of the individuals we support have very little by way of financial resources and rarely receive a visitor – even at Christmas.
Ageuk statistics state that 1.2 million older people in England are chronically lonely. As a team. we visit our more isolated clients near to Christmas, to give them a Christmas card and small gift, and to stay for a chat. However, one of our case workers, Emma Sproston, thought we could do more, and has encouraged the rest of the staff at Anthony Collins Solicitors to consider contributing a small gift.
The generous response we have received is overwhelming; our colleagues have donated gifts of chocolate, sweets, biscuits, and toiletries so that each person has a bundle of parcels to open on Christmas day.
One of our HR colleagues, Catherine Edwards, used the appeal to encourage her two children to use their pocket money to buy a gift to brighten someone else’s Christmas. Catherine said, “It’s important to me that the children are aware there are many people less fortunate than ourselves, and a kind act can go a long way especially during the festive season. This was a perfect opportunity for us as a family to consider others.”
The gift hampers will be hand-delivered by members of our team in the run up to Christmas.
