AC local - Local government newsletter autumn 2024

Welcome to our autumn newsletter. In this edition, we are focusing on changes the new Government is looking to introduce and the impact on local authorities.

My colleague Sarah Harnett and I have highlighted some of the main provisions of the Employment Rights Bill including a provision on not creating a two-tier workforce which could significantly impact the outsourcing of services.

Chanel Quigley has some practical tips for local authorities in gearing up for the Procurement Act 2023 implementation on 24 February 2025.

Max Howarth details the proposed revisions to the National Planning Policy framework, which include significant changes to facilitate the Government’s house-building agenda.

Mark Cook looks at opportunities for local authorities to collaborate with other stakeholders to help achieve the Government’s house-building targets.

Gayle Monk provides insight into what the Government’s agenda means for environmental sustainability, including the potential impact of Great British Energy.

Claire Ward concludes this edition with a brief look at the Government’s devolution agenda as we await the publication of the White Paper.

We hope you enjoy this edition of the newsletter and that it is useful. Let us know if there are any
issues you want more information on or you want to talk through.
