The team, which is aiming to work with 30% of the country’s top co-operatives and mutuals, has been set up to provide guidance on areas that affect co-operative organisations.
Experts at Anthony Collins Solicitors will share their extensive experience of IPS legislation and co-operative values to support sustainable business models. The firm also believes its ethos of social justice is uniquely aligned to the values of potential co-operative and mutual clients.
Services offered by the new team include advice on governance, supply chain management, energy generation and development.
Growth in the UK’s co-operatives and mutuals sector, which is already worth more than £30billion a year, is expected to continue to outstrip that of the national economy.
Richard Brooks, a partner at Anthony Collins Solicitors, said: “We believe that co-operatives and mutuals provide a sustainable business model that will improve the UK economy for all in the next decade.
“However, crucially, these bodies need specialist advice tailored to their structure and objectives, rather than a one-size-fits-all service from lawyers more used to dealing with corporates driven by institutional investors alone”
“Our ethos as a firm is to work towards social justice and we think co-operatives and mutuals share that view. Our experience working with not-just–for-profit organisations uniquely places us to provide these services. We are targeting supporting 30 of the top 100 co-operatives by 2017 and growing our team appropriately.”
Anthony Collins Solicitors is an associate member of Co-operatives UK, the trade body.
