[media id=1169] The purpose of the information day was to bring families together who have to care for children affected by a brain injury in order to share experiences and provide mutual support in a relaxed informal setting. In addition, specialists gave presentations dealing with key issues affecting a child who has suffered an acquired brain injury.
Rankeshwar Batta and Victoria Fullilove gave an overview of a personal injury claim / clinical negligence claim. Anita Chopra, Director at Match Solicitors and an education specialist provided an overview of the workings of the Special Educational Needs system and finally Dr Heather Ball, Educational Psychologist gave a psychological perspective relating to children with whom she works who have an acquired brain injury.
Those who attended found the day to be very helpful and got a real insight into the issues they are likely to face and how they could be supported. Lots of discussion and experience was shared over lunch with one parent commenting:
“This day has been so useful. It is the first time that anyone has explained everything to me in my language and I feel much more knowledgeable about some of the key issues that affect my son on a day to day basis. Thank you so much!”

Rankeshwar Batta, Head of Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury at Anthony Collins Solicitors said:
“We are absolutely delighted to have hosted the first regional coffee and information day for families who are supporting children who have an acquired brain injury. Our aim was to provide a relaxed and informal setting for families to hear professional speakers but also to connect with other families who are suffering difficulties within the “system” they have to access.
We are hoping to provide a series of such information days on a quarterly basis and continue to partner the Child Brain Injury Trust in providing knowledge and support to families who often find it difficult to navigate their way through statutory and other services that may be available to them”
